Dear Mr. Stein
In response to your fax dated November 19, 2009, the City of St. Marys is in receipt of the Opens Records request . The City Clerk will research one of our former attorney’s files for all documents, advertisements, and United States Justice Department, Civil Rights Division notification of compliance with voting rights legislation. However, due to the documents being in the possession of several different attorneys over the years, it may take some time to locate all of the information requested. An answer to whether or not the documents are available will be provided as soon as possible. If you wish for us to proceed, please be advised that a fee of $21.96 per hour for will be charged.
As anthorized by Code Section 50-13-71 of the Open Records Act, there is a fee of $.25 for each page of the records you request to have copied and may be charged an additional fcc for certified copies or for other copies for which a fee is specifically authorized or otherwise provided for by law.
Please realize that if you request copying or other administrative services for which charges may be assessed, then you will be required to provide payment for these services prior to action.
Sincerely,
Darlene M. Roellig
City Clerk

No Sandy the fee is not correct. This is what the gov’t does to discourge the people from taking action. If they price the the open records high, then people will not ask for them. When I got open records from the Georgia Peace Officers, the total was $21.00. That was for an hour and a half of work and about 400 pages of material. Why are these documents in the possession of former atty’s? Why are they not stored at the city?
